Why Phoenix Christian?

One of my very best friends, Diane Talley’s, daughter attended and graduated from Phoenix Christian and I was impressed with the culture, quality of education, and emphasis on character in Phoenix Christian. So, when I retired from the Military in 2019 and moved back home to Phoenix from the East Coast, the only school I considered sending my son to was Phoenix Christian. We arrived right before the pandemic and there was a need for substitute teachers. I wanted to be closer to my son and a part of his school experience so I applied and have since been substitute teaching very regularly. Up until I accepted the opportunity to long-term sub for Mrs. Mia Schlaak once she had her baby this spring. I fell in love with teaching 4th grade, more in love with Phoenix Christian, and with my co-teacher, Mrs. Nelson. God knew where He wanted us and I’m so happy to be answering that calling.

List a favorite Bible verse and why it is a favorite/what does it mean to you.

Isaiah 11:6-9 “The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze, their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like an ox. The nursing child shall play over the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put its hand on the adder’s den. They will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” These verses paint a beautiful picture of what the new heavens and the new earth will be. Peace and security; safety and love. It calms me in times when the storms seem so violent and unpredictable. When the world seems so cruel and divisive. I look forward to these times where we can coexist peacefully, all proclaiming the name of God and singing his praises together.
