National Junior Honor Society

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students.

NJHS is more than just an honor roll.  NJHS serves to honor those students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character.  The guidelines for selection are based upon a student’s outstanding performance in those areas.

Students who have a cumulative grade point average of 87%, B+, 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent standard of excellence or higher, qualify to apply for membership. These students' applications are then considered on the basis of service, leadership, citizenship, and character.

NJHS membership represents more than just academic recognition. The five main purposes outlined in the NJHS constitution are: "To create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop worthy school and community citizenship, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools." These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection.  The official motto of NJHS is, "Light is the Symbol of Truth."

Phoenix Christian's NJHS participates in several community service activities as well as a number of fun, team building activities throughout the school year. An induction ceremony is held during the spring semester for inductees who have qualified for membership. Students transferring to Phoenix Christian who were NJHS members in good standing at their previous schoool are invited to join the PCJHS chapter.
