Community Service

Phoenix Christian has traditionally placed an emphasis on community service. Community service provides an opportunity for our students to explore living out their faith in their church and broader community. It encourages them to analyze and make decisions in terms of when, whom, and how they will serve. Among other things, it is our hope that this experience will influence their perspective regarding the importance of Christian service as a way of life.

All students are required to complete ten (10) hours of community service each semester for no pay in order to receive full credit in their Bible course. To report hours served the students must submit a form for each section of hours worked and write a brief summary of the service performed and their experience. Students can choose to put all their community service hours on one form as long as they give a brief description of all hours completed. Community Service hours must be verified by an adult. Please refer to the Handbook page 14-15 (can be found online at www.phoenixchristian.org) for a list of approved service ministries. If there is uncertainty regarding whether a particular service fulfills the requirements, students should ask their Bible teachers. Students may not be paid for any service given, and, unless approved in special circumstances, babysitting is not considered community service.

First semester hours are due by Friday, November 27th, and second semester hours are due by Friday, April 23rd. Students that have completed 20+ hours during the prior summer may turn in those hours by November 30th and receive credit for both semesters. These must be approved service ministry opportunities.

Above and beyond these required service hours, the high school will be having a community service day in the fall and spring where our entire campus rolls up its sleeves and serves!
