(Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization, Inc.)
Dollar-for-Dollar Tax Credit-Making Christian Education Affordable
Since it began in 1998, the Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization, Inc. www.ACSTO.org has awarded scholarships to nearly 15,000 students attending 100 Arizona Christian schools. Nearly 40,000 visionary Arizona taxpayers have made this possible by donating to ACSTO, and taking advantage of Arizona's unique opportunity to receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit against their Arizona state income tax.
ACSTO's sole purpose is to implement the private school tuition tax credit law passed and signed into law in 1997 as A.R.S. Section 43-1089. ACSTO is a tax-exempt, charitable organization pursuant to federal tax law, Section 501 (c)(3).
The constitutionality of the tax credit law has been upheld by the Arizona Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court determined not to review the favorable Arizona Supreme Court decision. The law is effective for donations made during calendar year 1998 and for each year thereafter.
Since its inception, ACSTO has awarded more than $57 million to help children pay their Christian school tuition.
Phoenix Christian Unified Schools received a total of $633,872.28 for the Central Campus and $103,890.16 for the West Valley Campus in 2008/2009. Thus far in 2009/2010, PCUS has already received $103,791.90 for the Central Campus and $25,820.82 for the West Valley.
