With over 15 years in the business world and 7 years in education, Darren brings a unique perspective to Phoenix Christian that combines both business management and educational experience. Darren has a Masters Degree in Education with school counseling and school administration credentials. Before entering the field of education as a school counselor in 2005, he worked in his family’s holding company that included management of an outdoor advertising company, industrial and commercial rental equipment company, land development, and a residential and commercial construction company. His entrance into education came as being a high school football, basketball and baseball coach at the age of 22. In 2005 he was hired as school counselor and head basketball coach at the Lummi Tribal School in the Lummi Indian Reservation. His basketball team captured the tri district championship and went on to finish 7th in the state tournament. In 2007 Darren became Director of Development at Lynden Christian Schools, a Prek-12 grade school of 1200 students in Lynden, WA. At Lynden Christian he oversaw a development department that raised annually over a million dollars through various means, including an auction, thrift store, recycling center and year end giving. He also oversaw an eight million dollar capital improvement project and a nine million dollar endowment and was also in charge of admissions, marketing, and an international program of 40 students. Since his time here at Phoenix Christian, with the help of incredible people, he has started an annual auction, opened up a thrift store and recycling program, started an Annual Fund campaign, and has teamed up with the Barnabas Foundation to implement a strategic planned giving strategy.
Darren is married to Chantel Johnson and they have three children: Nick (17), Hailey (12) and Luke (9). In his spare time, when he is not watching PC athletic events, he enjoys fishing and spending time with his family.
