A Message from the Superintendent

“Do it heartily as to the Lord.”  Col 3:23

What Parents Can Expect at Phoenix Christian Unified Schools

We are delighted that you are interested in attending Phoenix Christian Unified Schools.  Let me take this opportunity to wish you well in the application process and give you an overview of what you can expect in 2011-2012 at PCUS.

The PCUS faculty, staff and administration are committed to pursuing excellence.  We understand that the ultimate meaning of “excellence” involves pursuing the nature, character and works of God.  Although we have not “arrived”, pursuing excellence will be one of our highest priorities.  In doing so, we strive to offer the following commitments to PCUS students and parents.

  • Effective, well trained Christian teachers who love the Lord and your child(ren).
  • Nurturing classrooms managed by teachers who themselves are pursuing excellence and who strive to model the fruit of the Spirit in all of their living.  “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness and self control.”  (Gal. 5:22)
  • Daily Bible instruction; every subject taught is integrated with the truths and Christian values contained in the Bible.  Prayer is an important part of every student’s school day.
  • Because PCUS is nondenominational, teachers teach Biblical views which are held in common by churches that agree the Bible is the Word of God, and that Jesus Christ is the Risen Son of God and the only way to salvation.  The loving grace of our Lord Jesus extends to all people who “call upon the name of the Lord”.
  • All students are taught to seek forgiveness for sin, accept Jesus Christ as their Savior, take personal initiative to study God’s Word and make it their primary objective to love, serve and honor Jesus Christ.
  • Rigorous educational instruction at a level which students can succeed with reasonable effort.  Reasoning, critical thinking skills and internalization of Christian values are important educational goals.
  • Teachers view parents as the primary educators of their children under God.  Christian teachers receive their authority to teach children from parents.
  • Phoenix Christian commits to timely and accurate information regarding a student’s academic status in Power School, our online data base. Beginning the third week of the semester, parents can expect communication via phone or e-mail if a student’s grade drops below passing (60%). Parents are always welcome at school, and parent/teacher conferences may be arranged through the school office or by contacting the teacher directly. If student difficulties or differences with the school arise, Phoenix Christian is committed to working with parents and students to resolve the issue.
  • Kindergarten classes do not exceed 24 students.  Elementary class sizes are normally no larger than 25 students.  Most junior high and high school academic classes are below 30 students and seldom exceed 32 students.  The principal may approve larger class sizes to resolve scheduling issues.
PC’s pursuit of excellence is a commitment to “do all things heartily, as to the Lord”. (Col. 3:23)  Excellence in every aspect of our schools is our goal.  We look forward to you joining this pursuit and becoming a part of PCUS.
