Internet Safety

As you may know, many State Department of Education offices are revising their Standards to address the ever growing need to make our students aware of Internet Safety. Here at Phoenix Christian we've developed a website and curriculum to specifically address Internet Safety.

What makes our approach unique is that all of the instruction is performed where today's youth spend so much of their time, and where teachers need to be to effectively teach Internet Safety; ONLINE.

Rest assured, only approved Students & Teachers are permitted access to the site. Any exceptions must be approved by the school administration.

The website includes an array of high-tech tools: user customizable web pages, groups, forums, blogs, messaging, pictures, mp3, video, and a calendar to stay on schedule.

For the 2009-2010 school year we're upgrading the site with ZOHO applications to provide users the ability to create Documents, SpreadSheets, and Presentations completely online.

We've even added data storage online as well.  Now, users can work using any computer from anywhere in the world and still turn in their homework on time! No more excuses that the dog ate my homework or the USB was destroyed in the washing machine.

The curriculum includes an illustrated Teacher's Text outlining every technical activity on the site necessary for instruction and a Scope & Sequence curriculum document directly correlated to the page numbers in the Teacher's Text providing suggestions for projects and interaction on Internet Safety subjects such as Identity Protection, Predators, Bullying, Social Networking, Copyright, Appropriate Use, Netiquette, and Socially Acceptable Language.

In essence, we're using 21st Century Skills to teach Internet Safety and we're continuing to collaborate with teachers to integrate technology more across the curriculum.

Imagine the digital display our Art Classes could provide. Are there memorable moments from a Science Fair exhibit? Perhaps a brief video of a concert or Play to promote your upcoming event would be valuable online. Maybe the school newspaper would be fun via blog next year. Or maybe, just maybe there's a section of your class that you're tired of repeating, say like the presentation on the 210 human cell types.  Let's video those rote sections of instruction and post them for homework so kids are ready to begin work when they arrive for class instead of, well, you know.

Feel free to view our Christian Site Model already in use at DailyChristianLife.org or our new site being developed at RZONZ.com
